Double Cleansing at Night
I struggled (and still do) with acne for years. if I wore makeup that day I would use a makeup remover at night and follow up with a cleanser. I realized this form of double cleansing is what I should have been doing every day. Throughout the day (even days when we don’t wear makeup) dirt and bacteria develop on our skin on top of the products and sunscreen we’ve applied in our morning skincare routine. I started double cleansing my skin at night: washing my face first with an oil-based cleanser and rinsing, then washing my face with a foaming water-based cleanser and rinsing. I immediately (literally within 1 week) noticed that my skin was clearing up. Any clogged pores or breakouts started to disappear as I was getting all of the bacteria out of my skin every night. The two cleansers I use are the DHC “Deep Cleansing Oil” ($32), and the Is Clinical “Cleansing Complex” ($45). These two are gentle, affordable, and get the job done.
Something I also started doing is using biodegradable, one-time-use face towels. These are essentially face towels that you can use once and throw away. Often times, when we use face towels they hold bacteria from previous uses. I personally would always forget to change my towels. The Clean Skin Club “Clean Towels” are USDA Certified, Dermatologist Approved, and only $17 for 50 towels.
